After years of teaching yoga, Pilates and barre in my own studio, I've seen everything on the mat: T-shirts falling down to your chin in downward dog, leggings that go see-through in every forward fold, straps digging in mid-twist…
The good news is that getting it right is easier than it seems. Here's what to wear so that in your next class you only think about your breath.
The golden rule: fitted, stretchy and opaque
In yoga and Pilates you stretch, go upside down and move in every direction. So the ideal clothing is:
- Fitted: so it doesn't ride up or fall down, and your teacher can see your alignment.
- Stretchy: it should move with every pose without holding you back.
- Opaque: always do the squat test in front of the mirror before wearing new leggings.
- No zips or hard details on the back: in Pilates you spend a lot of time lying down.
All our pieces are made from 90% nylon and 10% spandex, a fabric that stretches with you and goes back to its shape.
On top: a sports bra that stays in place
When you go upside down, lie down or twist, the last thing you want is to keep adjusting your top. Look for a comfortable, wire-free bra with a firm fit.
- The PowerPulse Sports Bra, with thin straps and a firm fit, stays in place in every pose and gives you just the right support without squeezing. And if one day you swap yoga for a more intense class, it's ready for that too.
- If you prefer more coverage, a long-sleeve top like the Tulip Power Top keeps you comfortable in early classes or with the air conditioning on.

On the bottom: high waist, always
High-waisted leggings are your best friend on the mat: they don't slide down in forward folds, they support your tummy and they're flattering. Have a look at our MagentaMotion Leggings or the whole high-waist collection.
For Pilates or hot days, bike shorts are just as comfortable and keep you cooler.
Matching sets: the easiest way to look perfect
If you don't want to think about it, a set is the answer. Top and bottoms match effortlessly and you feel ready before you've even rolled out your mat.
- Aurora Tie-Dye Set: a long-sleeve top with high-waisted leggings. It covers you and keeps you warm without limiting your movement, ideal for yoga, Pilates or training outdoors.
- Sahara Wrap Set: a long-sleeve wrap top with high-waisted bike shorts. Elegant in and out of the studio.

Jumpsuits: one piece, zero worries
A sports jumpsuit is my favourite trick for class: nothing rides up, nothing slides down and the waistband never bothers you. The FlirtyFlex Jumpsuit, with its open cross-strap back, or the Cat-titude Jumpsuit are perfect for stretching with total freedom. See all our sports jumpsuits.
Before and after class
- A light layer: your body cools down at the start of class and in the final relaxation. The cropped Orchid Glow jacket is perfect for getting to class and back home.
- A microfibre towel: a must for hot yoga or if your hands get sweaty. Our microfibre towel is light, very absorbent and dries fast.
- A bag to carry it all: like the Elysian Bag.
What to avoid on the mat
- Loose T-shirts: they fall down in inversions and downward dog.
- Cotton trousers: they soak up sweat, get heavy and stretch out.
- Low-rise leggings: you'll be pulling them up in every pose.
- Tops with fastenings or details on the back: they get in the way in every exercise lying down.
Most importantly: feel good
Yoga and Pilates are time for you. Choose clothes that let you move freely and make you feel good when you look in the mirror. Your breath will do the rest.
